The EU Advisory Group supports the Republic of Armenia in the implementation of its reform agenda and the development of its international commitments. The Group provides tailored policy advice on legal, security, democratic, economic and institutional issues to the Armenian Presidency and other institutions.

Roundtable on implementing the Concluding Observations of the UN Human Rights Committee

The aim of the cooperation is to develop a migration situation which complies with international standards and sustainable human development, by ensuring the protection of the rights and interests of people involved. Having such a migration state of affairs in place will also facilitate the signing of Visa Facilitation and Readmission Agreements between the European Union and Armenia.

Democratic Structures

Armenia and the European Union are endeavouring to strengthen the stability and effectiveness of those political institutions that seek to guarantee democracy, transparency, dialogue and the rule of law in Armenia. The participation of political institutions in initiatives of both regional and EU cooperation is encouraged not least within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership.

Diplomatic School

Strengthening Armenia’s capacity for political dialogue and cooperation on foreign and security matters was what stood behind the foundation of the Diplomatic School. Opened in February 2010, the new school is helping to build a modern diplomatic service.

With a view to improving trade relations and the movement of goods, Armenia and the European Union cooperate on issues relating to customs and border management. Modernising the Armenian system for determining the customs value of products is critical prior to having a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement between Armenia and the European Union.

Justice and National Security

The European Union and Armenia are facing common challenges in the JLS sector such as the administration of justice, the penal chain, migration, the prevention of and the fight against organized crime, corruption, trafficking and the fight against terrorism as well as other serious crimes of a cross border nature.

The European Union seeks to further Armenia’s socio-economic development by contributing to the long-term objective of sustainable development. Key priorities identified by Armenia and the European Union are: improving the investment climate, strengthening private sector-led growth, and the further alignment of economic legislation and administrative practices with EU standards.

The strengthening of government communication and media quality are key aspects of supporting Armenia’s ongoing reform process. The processes of political and economic change need to be carefully planned and clearly communicated.

Strengthening respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in Armenia, in compliance with international commitments undertaken by Armenia, has been identified as a priority in the cooperation between Armenia and the European Union.
