Democratic Structures
Armenia and the European Union are endeavouring to strengthen the stability and effectiveness of political institutions that seek to guarantee democracy, transparency, dialogue and the rule of law in Armenia. The participation of political institutions in initiatives of both regional and EU cooperation is encouraged not least within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership.
The EU Advisory Group works closely with the Armenian parliament, the National Assembly. We specifically support efforts to:
- Increase the efficiency and stability of the parliament through training and consultations with key staff on best practices of parliamentary processes in EU member states;
- Increase interaction between the parliament and civil society/citizens by advising the parliament on the internal rules that govern interest groups, a new visitor programme, security practices and accreditation procedures;
- Maximize the outcome of Armenia’s presence in EU institutions and inter-parliamentary assemblies (e.g. the Eastern Partnership’s EURONEST Parliamentary assembly) through training and strategic advice to all parties;
- Promote further access of all Armenian parties and Parliamentary groups to European Parliament bodies and European Political families by providing information on the potential benefits of cooperation and then assisting them in the accession process.
